The Golden Circle is considered a "classic" and is one of the most popular tours out of Reykjavík.  The most significant attractions on this tour are the National Park at Thingellir, the Geysir hot spring and high geothermal area and last but not least the Gullfoss waterfall.

The Þingvellir National Park on the lake with the same name, is remarkable for its vegetation, geology and it´s role in the history of Iceland. The vegetation is dominated by the natural domestic woods of birch trees. This is also the place where the continental plate movements are best visible, forming the background for the ancient national assembly, Alþingi, established in this setting almost 1100 hundred years ago.

Geysir is not that active any more, but his lesser equal Strokkur is quite busy in pleasing the visitor´s eye, sending impressive columns of water and steam into the air every 5-10 minutes, while other steam and mud pots boil and bubble peacfully nearby.

Gullfoss is Geysir´s next door neighbour. Even if attractiveness is subject to taste, many find Gullfoss first among equals when it comes to visual effects, where it cascades in two falls into the 32 meter deep canyon on its way to the ocean.
